The Value of NAWIC Membership

NAWIC membership offers several benefits. Business owners, project managers, administrators, trades women and others employed in the construction industry can expect value from their investment in NAWIC.

NAWIC membership affords many professional, educational and business-related opportunities. The benefits listed below are just a few of the reasons NAWIC membership can add value to your construction-related career.

Employer Benefits

As an employer, you have basic needs that must be met for your business to remain competitive. You must have dedicated, multi-skilled employees, increased productivity and company recognition.

As the premier Association for women working in the construction industry, NAWIC meets employers’ needs by: developing and promoting industry values and culture; offering exposure to new skills and technology updates; promoting professional certifications, coaching and mentoring; generating publicity through community service projects; building a strong industry by promoting NEF K-12 programs to the future work force.

The NAWIC Image

Your NAWIC membership will include a subscription to the Association's award-winning bimonthly magazine, The NAWIC IMAGE. For more than 30 years, The NAWIC IMAGE has showcased the efforts, causes and issues of its members and the construction industry. Featured departments of the magazine include Association News, Briefs, Business World and Work Force.

Networking

The networking opportunities NAWIC provides are endless. Members are encouraged to take advantage of monthly membership meetings where guest speakers serve to educate attendees about the changing climate in construction. Regional conferences and National Conventions give members opportunities to meet and learn from other women in construction. Networking in NAWIC has provided members with new jobs, new careers and life-long friendships.

Regional Conferences / Annual Convention

Each spring, the 14 regions of NAWIC hold Forums where members attend seminars and network with other members from their geographic areas. On a larger scale, each fall NAWIC offers one of the best buys in construction through its National Convention. Members attend educational seminars, meet inspirational speakers, and develop skills through workshops and Council meetings that recharge careers. Conventions are set against the backdrop of exciting locations such as Atlanta, Reno, Anchorage, Nashville and New York City. Become a NAWIC member today, and join us at our regional and national conferences to network with other women in construction and learn more about the industry.

Promoting Education

NAWIC’s commitment to education and skilled training can be seen in a variety of areas. For more than 30 years, NEF has offered creative and educational programs for students from grade school and high school to adult certification programs. The Foundation’s award-winning Block-Kids program, Building Design Program and the CAD/Design/Drafting Scholarship Awards competitions introduce students to careers and opportunities in construction. NEF’s adult certification programs include: Certified Construction Associate (CCA), Construction Document Specialist (CDS) and Construction Industry Technician (CIT), which are administered through Clemson University. To learn more about NEF and it’s exciting programs, visit www.nawiceducation.org.

Crystal Vision Awards Program

Each year, NAWIC recognizes individuals who have advanced and promoted the role of women in construction through initiatives and/or policies. The Crystal Vision and Crystal Achievement Awards are designed to honor such individuals. If you would like to nominate an individual for either of these awards, you may request an application after December 1, 2008 from Kara Roberson, NAWIC’s Communications Director, by email at karar@nawic.org. You may also contact Kara by calling (800) 552-3506, ext. 13. Applications for the 2008 program must be received at the NAWIC Office by February 28, 2008.

NAWIC Founders' Scholarship Foundation

Each year, we are pleased to award more than $25,000 to worthy recipients in construction-related degree programs. Award amounts range from $1,000 to $2,000. Since its founding, the NAWIC Founders’ Scholarship Foundation (NFSF) and NAWIC chapters nationwide have awarded more than $4 million in scholarships to students pursuing construction-related studies.

The scholarship criteria and applications may vary from year to year; therefore, applications are available in October of each year and must be postmarked by March 15 to qualify for competition. Scholarships are awarded for the fall semester each year.

Some local chapters award scholarships as well.
